PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing)
Does my electrical equipment need PAT Testing?
The UK Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) states:
4.—(1) Every employer shall ensure that work equipment is so constructed or adapted as to be suitable for the purpose for which it is used or provided.
The Electricty at Work Regulations 1989 states:
4.—(2) As may be necessary to prevent danger, all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, such danger.
Whilst there is no legal requirement to undertake PAT Testing and keep records employers must ensure all electrical equipment is safe, suitable for purpose and properly maintained in good working order.
