Fire Risk Assessment

Do I need a fire Risk Assessment?

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that:

9.—(1) The responsible person must make a suitable and sufficient assessment of the risks to which relevant persons are exposed for the purpose of identifying the general fire precautions he needs to take to comply with the requirements and prohibitions imposed on him by or under this Order.

In simple terms it requires you to:

  • Prevent harm and injury to anyone in the event of a fire

  • Reduce where practicably and reasonably possible the possibility of a fire.

This requirement comes into force when a business has 5 or more employees and should be undertaken by a competent person.
