Fire Marshal for Care Homes Training in the UK
Fire safety in care homes is not just best practice.
It is a legal requirement. Under the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005, all workplaces in England and Wales must provide adequate fire awareness training for staff, regardless of the number of employees.
For care homes, where residents may have limited mobility or complex needs, the importance of robust fire safety procedures is even greater.
The Fire Marshal for Care Homes course is specifically designed to meet these obligations while addressing the unique challenges faced in residential care settings.
Why Fire Safety Training Matters in Care Homes
Care homes accommodate some of the most vulnerable members of society. Residents may require assistance to evacuate, may be living with cognitive impairments, or may be unable to respond quickly in an emergency.
This makes thorough training essential for all staff, not just managers or senior team members.
The course is CPD, IIRSM and Gatehouse Awards approved, providing reassurance that the training meets recognised professional standards.
It equips employees with the knowledge to identify fire risks, reduce hazards, and respond effectively should a fire occur.
What the Course Covers
The Fire Marshal for Care Homes course follows the structure of a standard Fire Marshal programme but includes additional content tailored specifically to care environments.
There are sixteen modules in total, each requiring a pass mark of 70 percent, with the final module requiring 100 percent.

The final module, Using a Fire Extinguisher, requires full marks to pass, reinforcing the importance of practical competence in emergency situations.
Duration and Accessibility
The course duration is approximately 220 minutes, based on video content and rounded to reflect the total learning time.
This does not include additional time spent reflecting on questions or waiting for content to load.
It is delivered online, making it accessible for busy care home teams across the UK. Recommended system requirements include:
• An up to date web browser
• Up to date video drivers
• At least 1GB of RAM
• Broadband download speed of 3Mb or more.
This flexible format allows staff to complete the training around shift patterns and operational demands.
Supporting Compliance and Protecting Lives
For care home providers, investing in structured fire marshal training supports compliance with UK legislation and demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding residents and staff alike.
Beyond compliance, it fosters a culture of awareness and preparedness.
By understanding fire risks, recognising safety features within buildings, and knowing exactly how to act in the event of a fire, trained fire marshals play a critical role in protecting lives and property.
In a sector where safety is paramount, Fire Marshal for Care Homes training is not simply another box to tick.
It is a vital component of responsible care provision in the UK.
