Portable Heater Safety

As we enter the colder seasons of the year many people will be using various methods to heat their homes.


Portable heaters provide a quick and easy solution for warming various area of your home and are often seen as a cheaper alternative to gas central heating due the rising prices of gas.

That been said not using the heater correctly can lead to fires some fatal normally as a result of flammable materials been left on a portable heater.

It all comes down a common-sense approach when using portable heaters in your home and the following guidance will assist you in staying safe when using your heater.

Portable Heater Use:

  • Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Ensure there is adequate ventilation in the areas they are been used.

  • If used in only one location permanently fix the heater to the wall otherwise ensure a safety guard is fitted.

  • Never leave heaters on overnight or when leaving the house.

  • Do not move the heater whilst on.

  • Never sit too close to or on the heater or you may suffer burns or clothing may ignite.

  • Do not dry clothes directly on the heater.

  • Ensure children or pets are never left un-attended around a heater that is on.

  • Do not use flammable liquids, sprays etc within the vicinity of the heater.

By following the correct operating procedures and regular maintenance you will be helping to ensure your heater causes nothing more than a warm home.
